DA FAQ : Anesthesia?




Q. What are the major differences between general anesthesia and sedative anesthesia?
General anesthesia and sedative anesthesia both makes the patient motionless with no consciousness, feeling, movement, and reflex reaction, but general anesthesia has no consciousness and breathing. In the other hand, sedative anesthesia has some consciousness and wakes up a little when talked to, so it is to be seen as relaxed state.


Q. Does general anesthesia influence functions of brain?
Many people worry over a vulgar belief that anesthetic drugs used for general anesthesia damage brain cells. An anesthesia specialist keeps cardio pulmonary functions and brain cells normal, so it does not directly damage brain cells or brain


Q. Does degree of anesthesia differ according to drinking capacity?
The drugs that influence anesthesia is usually alcohol, sleeping pill, and stimulant.
If these drugs are taken excessively, tolerance for anesthetic drug can form, but drinking capacity does not directly influence the degree of anesthesia.


Q. Can I receive anesthesia if I have a fever and cough? 
Usually fever or coughing means that a patient has different disease like flu, and it may be combined with bronchitis or pneumonia, so in this case, it is strongly recommended that the operation be postponed for it may cause respiratory complication.


Q. Am I allowed to eat before surgery that involves anesthesia?
You must fast before general anesthesia. If food is consumed, it may reverse back and block airway, so 8 hours of fasting before surgery is strictly enforced.


Q. Does applying lipstick or nail polish bother anesthesia?
Wearing lipstick or nail polish does not directly affect anesthesia itself.
However, during the anesthesia, patient’s oxygen saturation is measured by a device that is attached to hands and feet and by checking the condition of lips, so if vivid colored lipstick or nail polish is worn, it is difficult to check oxygen saturation. Therefore, removing them is enforced before surgery.

Cautions after Facial Contouring 1.      Posture 1)      Keep your head 20~30 degrees higher than the heart to quickly reduce facial swelling. Maintain this posture for 1 week. 2)      While sleeping, lying on your side can create too much pressure and cause problems so it is best to lie straight on your back. 2.      Dietary Instructions 1)      You can start taking sips of water first 6 hours after surgery and if you feel comfortable, you can start eating rice porridge, and soft bread, tofu, boiled eggs and finely diced foods. 2)      Please avoid dairy products and foods that contain large amount of fiber, as it may cause diarrhea. 3)      It is recommended to consume soft foods and liquids for 1 week after surgery and after 1 week you can consume regular meals. 4)      For 2 weeks, please avoid oily, spicy, salty foods and for 2 months, avoid hard and chewy foods (gum, rice cake, candy, nuts, etc.) and for those who have undergone cheekbone surgery, please
