Precautions : After Eye Surgery

Post-operative Precautions after Eye Surgery

01 Position 

• Until a week from surgery, maintain an upright position especially your neck and upper body area to help ease swelling by keeping your head higher than your heart When sleeping. 
• Do not lie down with your face to the side or upside down. When sleeping, have your face facing up towards the ceiling.

02 Meal 

• Any regular meal can be taken, but please avoid foods with strong-taste. 

03 Swelling 

• Swelling and bruising intensifies for 48 hours after surgery. It will get better within 2~4 weeks and differs by each individual. 
• Apply ice pack for 3 days including operation day, then no fomentation is necessary.

04 Scar management

• Crying or Rubbing the eye is prohibited. 
• Pressuring the eyes is prohibited for it might cause bleeding. 
• The time of removing stitches differ depending on surgical method. They are usually removed after 2 to 10 days after the surgery.

05 Washing face, taking shower and makeup 

• Before removing stitches, only wipe your face with wet towel avoiding the operated area. 
• Washing face and makeup are possible on the next day.
  - When you wash your face, do not rub around your eyes and rinse very gently. In case of eye bags surgery, you can wash your face 3 days after the surgery
  - Eye makeup should be done after 2 weeks and use eye cleanser when you remove the makeup 
• Fake eyelashes and semi-permanent eye-line tattoo should be used after a month from surgery. 
• Wearing contact lenses is possible 3 weeks after the surgery. 5) Do not have sauna for a month.

06 Exercise 

• Daily routine can be done after a week from surgery, easy workout is possible after 2 to 3 weeks and intensive workout is possible after a month. 

07 Medicine Intake 

• After you leave the hospital, take prescribed medicine at the appointed time regularly, and if you have unusual symptoms like diarrhea or rash, please contact the clinic immediately. 
• Do not take Aspirin or vitamin E products; these can cause bleeding and interrupt well-hemostasis. 

08 Drinking and Smoking 

• Drinking alcohol and smoking is fatal to recovery, and should be certainly avoided at least a month.

09 Progress 

• Swelling of the white of the eye can occur from conjunctival swelling, but it does not effect your vision. 
• Bruise, hyperemia conjunctivae and conjunctival swelling may remain for 2-3 weeks. 
• The final result of operation stabilizes after 6 months. 
• Dazzling or tear running can happen after ptosis correction or under-eye operation, but this will calm down throughout the time. 
• Numbness around the eyes and forehead may happen, but will recover throughout few months. 
• If under-eye operation was done by conjunctiva, small amount of stagnated blood might run down like a blood tear during the first week, so don't be bothered. If the symptom continues, please visit the office. 
• Blood scab can form after few months, but it will be removed naturally, so please contact the clinic. 

10 In case of emergency 

• If you experience serious pain in eyeballs, change in vision, or sudden swelling, contact the office immediately to visit.
